OUKA

A retreat to be used beautifully and adorned with elegance

A quiet retreat set along the Daimon River, where rows of cherry trees line the banks. This villa was created not merely for the appreciation of craft, but for experiencing its beauty through everyday use. While engaging deeply with the woodcarving culture of Inami, Masanori Oji designed a space where displaying and using merge seamlessly into a single landscape. Reaching for a vessel or a tool, using it, and returning it to its place—within these simple gestures, the quiet joy of living with craft, OUKA, gently resides.

Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Masanori Oji is the founder of Oji & Design. As a designer, he works closely with traditional crafts and regional industries throughout Japan, overseeing projects that range from the design of tools and vessels to the creation of entire brands. A New Form of Japanese Aesthetics

The traditional versatility of the Japanese tatami room—free from fixed functions—has been reinterpreted in a contemporary way. It is also a delight to search for the quietly hidden cherry blossom motifs.

A bath that can also be enjoyed as a foot bath

In the bath, seamlessly connected to the living area, you may even enjoy a toast with old friends while soaking your feet—one of the unique pleasures of OUKA.
