Artisan
Kamo Kaoru
Wood carver
Born in the old town of Inami, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. From a family of Inami carvers that has continued since the Meiji era, she became interested in carving and lacquer work due to his grandfather's influence. She layers multiple coats of colored lacquer, which she then carves with chisels, using the resulting colors to express patterns and designs. By changing the carving technique, she brings out the texture of the colors and finishes the work solely with chisels, without using any sandpaper. She is the successor to the Inami carving tradition.
